Virtual Session 1
How does it work?
Virtual Session 1 consists of Math classes offered by Steve Heller. Students who register will be guided through fun math activities via Zoom. Steve has taught classes and tutored with virtual platforms all over the world and our students have been having a great time!
These classes are designed to be 8 weeks long. However, due to the ever changing nature of this environment we are running the first half of 4 weeks and then we will assess how to proceed with the second half.

Coding & Math
Making & Inventing
Math is the way we understand and organize the patterns in our lives and the world around us. Shapes are an accessible and excellent entry point for learning about mathematical ideas and analysis. In this class, we will learn through collaborative and fun hands-on activities to explore patterns in shapes and numbers. We will learn through collaborative and fun hands-on activities. This class requires an additional $10 kit of manipulatives to be picked up at Einstein's Workshop.
Math is the fundamental tool that we have for understanding everything around us. Unfortunately for many, numbers and math aren't much more than memorizing facts and equations. Join us for a class full of exercises, visualizations and explorations of what arithmetic truly means. Practice numerical fluency, propose and learn creative strategies for solving problems, and work with your group to gain a deeper understanding. Students will be exposed to abstract concepts that recur at every level of math. Students in Number Sense will gain a deeper understanding and confidence in numbers and math through collaborative and fun hands-on activities.
Math was invented to solve real-world problems. At the same time, studying problem-solving and puzzle-solving directly is a fun way to learn math. This class explores a series of brain-challenges, some of which will take several sessions, as we study basic problem-solving techniques, learning to represent problems abstractly and effectively explore a space of possible solutions. We will learn through collaborative and fun hands-on activities.
Symmetry is a fun, interesting, and accessible basis for all of mathematics. It’s everywhere, from mirrors to sub-atomic particles. This class uses hands-on group exploration exercises to introduce symmetry as a tool for analysis and problem-solving. Several techniques and tools will be introduced as we solve challenges at increasing depth in a way which encourages students to think about the problems as much as the solutions. We will learn through collaborative and fun hands-on activities.
