STEAM Day Frequently Asked Questions

What accommodations can you make for children with special needs?

Children with special needs and health conditions are extremely welcome at Einstein’s Workshop. Children with ADHD, on the autism spectrum, other developmental challenges, learning differences, and special physical needs often do very well in our offerings. As part of the registration process, we ask for full disclosure about a child’s challenges so we can ensure that they have the best possible experience.

If your child has an IEP, 504, or receives any special accommodations at school, please call us to discuss how to ensure that your child has a great experience. If your child has a one on one aide at school, we may request that a parent or other aide accompany the child during our program. In some circumstances, it may be appropriate for the child to attend without an aide on a trial basis. If it turns out that our program is not a good fit and a parent has fully disclosed their child’s condition and followed our agreed-upon plan, we will issue a refund.

What do kids do during the lunch hour after they’re done eating?

Kids are given the option to play outside with fun and appropriate outdoor toys. They are also welcome to enjoy any of the fun educational toys, games, and books in our STEAM Play Space. We also have a ping pong table and gaga pit available during breaks.

Will the kids go outside?

Definitely! Many camps, especially those involving experimentation, have an outdoors component. Also, whenever the weather allows, we eat lunch and snack outside, after which kids are also given the option to play outside with fun and appropriate outdoor toys.

Can I sign my child up for just a few days instead of a whole week?

The content of our camps build day over day so joining after the first day is challenging. In addition, in many of our camps, kids work together so it can be disruptive for students to leave part way through the week. That said, we can usually accommodate a camper missing a single day; there would be no discount for that situation.

How old does my child need to be to attend a STEAM Day or February/April Vacation camp?

Children must be at least 5 years old and in Kindergarten to attend camp.

How old does my child need to be to attend Summer camp?

Children must be at least 5 years old and starting Kindergarten in the Fall to attend camp.

If I sign my child up for both an AM and PM camp, will they stay for lunch?

Yes, we provide complimentary lunch hour supervision for students staying the full day. Half-Day campers may enroll in the Lunch and Play option for an additional fee.

Can my child heat their lunch in a microwave or store their lunch in a fridge?

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to heat or store food in a refrigerator. Please pack lunch in an insulated container to maintain the correct temperature.

Do you provide snacks?

A limited selection of small snacks are available for purchase at the front desk.

Do you provide lunch?

Most families pack lunch and snacks for their children. We have a small selection of Lunchable-type options that parents can purchase by filling out the lunch request form no later than the Saturday before the first day of that week’s camp.

Can I drop my child off early and/or pick up late?

We often provide Early Drop-off (8:15 – 9 AM), 1 Hour Extended Play (4 – 5 PM), and Long Extended Play (4 – 5:45 PM) for additional fees. Half day campers may also join us for the lunch hour for a small additional fee. Some of the smaller STEAM days do not offer early drop-off or extended play options.

What time do AM and PM camps meet?

AM camps start at 9 AM and end at 12 Noon. PM camps start at 1 PM and end at 4 PM.

How much does camp cost?

Each one-week (five days) morning or afternoon camp costs $450. The first week of summer camp, the week of Juneteenth, and the July 4th week cost less because they meet for fewer than five days. February and April vacation camps also only meet for four days so cost less. If you need five full days of coverage during February or April vacation, campers can enjoy our Presidents Day or Patriots Day STEAM Days in addition to a four day camp.
